Gluten free and dairy free easy recipes: Cooking for Isaiah

When the publisher offered me a review copy of Cooking for Isaiah, a mothers journey to create easy and delicious meals for her son who is wheat and dairy intolerant this writer really wanted to see these recipes.

Not gluten intolerant and not dairy intolerant - why the interest?

Have you noticed the increasing rise in food allergies in family and friends? More and more are suffering from food allergies. It is supported by The University of Maryland School of Medicine Center for Celiac Research recently released (Sept 27) epidemiological study in theAnnals of Medicine supporting that the celiac autoimmune disorder is on the rise with evidence of increased incidents in the elderly. That then makes sense why friends who are in their 50s are now gluten intolerant or put on a gluten free diet to resolve health issues.

Statistics can be boring but also enlightening. Incidents of gluten intolerance have doubled every fifteen years. Back in 1974 incidents of people with the blood markers for celiac disease increased from one in 501 to the US study of 2003 to one in 133.

Putting good food on the table is important and having recipes that can be prepared for friends and family who have these allergies makes sense. Many are taking on the challenge of meatless Mondays, does it make sense to do a gluten/dairy free day as well?

So if one food allergy is difficult consider a child, a family member, suffering with a second food intolerance. Author Silvana Nardone knows food; she is the founding editor in chief of Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine, where she is also the No-Recipe Zone and Sweet Spot columnist. Having a child who longs for the pleasures of pizza and cornbread was her impetus for the cookbook. The irony here is Ms Nardone owns an Italian bakery, Fanciulia.

A talented chef friend, in her early 50s, who has recently been put on a gluten free diet reviewed the book, she reads recipes like others read scientific data. She gave a thumbs up and talked about Ms Nardones website www.DishTowelDiaries.com which has other gluten free and gluten full recipes.

If you are lucky not to have these dietary issues, keeping a copy of this cookbook on your shelf is still a must.
