Part of the fun of attending a family reunion besides seeing relatives you dont get to see very often is seeing what foods everyone brought. There is usually a conglomeration of meats, salads, other side dishes and desserts.
Fun ideas for desserts to take are whole cold watermelons, slice and enjoy at the reunion. Fresh fruit trays of watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, red or green grapes, whole strawberries and pineapple chunks are always popular.
Usually the stars on the dessert table are the pies and cakes. Simple brownies are easy to take and always a hit. Fruit cobblers and pies are easy to transport. Below are some more easy-to-take dessert recipes:
Brownie & Cream Cheese Cupcakes

Texas Sheet Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 c. water
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 c. butter
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- 2 c. granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions:
In large saucepan combine water, butter and cocoa. Cook and stir until boiling over medium heat. Remove from heat.
In large mixing bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Add to hot cocoa mixture, mix until smooth. Add buttermilk, eggs and vanilla extract; beat well. Pour into prepared 15-1/2 x 10-1/2 x 1 cake pan. Bake 375 degrees for about 20 minutes.
Icing: In saucepan combine 1/2 cup butter, 6 tablespoons of buttermilk and 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa. Cook over medium heat and stir until boiling; remove from heat. Gradually blend in 1 lb. of powdered sugar and 1 tsp. vanilla extract, mix until smooth. Immediately pour over warm cake. Let cool. When cake is room temperature, tightly cover.
