Roti bread quick and easy

Roti bread is perfect with a savory curry and is a snap to prepare. Just 5 ingredients, little effort and time and you will amaze your friends and family with this fun and versatile bread. Check out the slide show below for step by step instructions.

Roti Bread Quick and Easy

  • 4 cups all purpose flour or whole wheat pastry flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cups water
  • Olive oil

Mix dry ingredients together.
Add water and mix well.
Knead for about 2 minutes; dough will be pliable and sticky.

Place dough into a bowl greased with olive oil.
Cover with damp clothe and let rest for 20 to 30 minutes.

After rest time oil hands and work dough again a few turns and divide dough into 4 to 8 balls. Cover with damp cloth and let rest 20 minutes.

Depending on the size of the surface you are cooking on you can divide the dough into 4 or 8 balls.

Dust surface of counter with flour and roll dough ball out very thinly.

Heat an iron skillet or griddle to medium heat.
When ready to cook roti, brush small amount of oil onto cooking surface and gently lay rolled out roti onto iron skillet.
Gently brush top surface of roti with oil and allow to cook 1 to 2 minutes keeping a close eye on the underside that it does not scorch.
Adjust your heat up of down depending on how your roti is cooking.
When roti is the desired color and doneness flip with tongs and cook on 2nd side.
Transfer to a plate or board and continue with rest of roti.

Serve with any curry or a savory lentil dish.
