I think people would enjoy the cooking process if they knew what they were doing, if they knew it was really easy and if they knew they could do it in One-Pot! After you get used to the idea of using the oven, the stove or let's get real, the cutting board, you will realize how much fun cooking can be! I am constantly told "I don't like cooking. It's too hard. I make too much of a mess and I hate washing dishes." That's just foreign to me because I've been cooking since I was two, and learning to cook in One-Pot!
Do you ever have food moods? I get them constantly. Surprisingly, it's not just for chocolate. Sometimes I get a hankering for a really good salad with a really good dressing and sometimes it's pizza and sometimes it's for chicken of some sort. When your favorite restaurant just doesn't have what you want or they close early on Sunday -Paul's restaurant in Arbutus makes the best chicken cheesesteak but you have to get there before noon - sometimes it's necessary to get your hands in the kitchen and get a pot dirty (but only One-Pot!)
When you get in moods, it's best to start in your kitchen, not the phonebook (or App or Ipad, not something techy, use your hands!) Do you have carrots in your refrigerator? What about Ranch dressing? I mean sometimes the start is staring you right in the face. Cutting up carrots into tiny matchsticks or cute little discs or long oars is all you need to realize that cooking is fun.
Start with something small. Boil some water, add some pre-made raviolis and at the end of the cooking process, throw in some broccolini (y'know -so it's all in one pot!) Drain. Drizzle with some flavored olive oil and parmesan cheese. It's a meal. A simple, one-pot meal. You cook your veggies while you cook your pasta and you only have one pot to clean.
It's a start. This is all you need to do to get yourself "warmed" up to the idea of cooking. Cutting carrots isn't hard. Boiling water isn't hard. It's not "scary" and you actually can do it. Keep reading Baltimore's One-Pot Meals Examiner to see how you can keep the cooking in your kitchen, even if it's just a salad!
