Quick and easy way to your own homemade pizza recipes: Goodbye soggy pizza

Have you given up on making a great pizza at home? Your family may have had their share of soggy pizza, wonderful toppings included, but soggy. Here's a quick and easy veggie pizza recipe that is delicious. It is also a good starting point for all your own homemade pizza recipes.

Stoned in the 90's

Pizza stones became more common in households in Northeast Tennessee during the 1990's. Pampered Chef parties introduced people to the whole cooking stone idea. The pizza stones do help with the soggy crust problem, if used correctly. The stone is heated before the dough is placed on it, hopefully creating a crispy texture. However, pizza stones are a little awkward to manage, slightly dangerous, difficult to store, and very fragile.

Pillsbury Pizza Crust in the can is the easiest way to make a pizza, but you can use whatever crust you like. There are some good pizza crust mixes in the box, but the Pillsbury Pizza Crust is the most well-received by my family. (Notice there was only one piece left for the article photo.) It provides a really good foundation for whatever pizza recipes you come up with. You can trust that little Pillsbury Dough Boy!

In 1979, a Bristol college student won $10,000 in the Pillsbury Bake-off with her pizza recipe using Pillsbury Pizza Crust. Read this article for contests you can enter.

Veggie Pizza Recipe

Ingredients:

  • One package Pillsbury Pizza crust
  • One 14.5 ounce can petite diced tomatoes (plain)
  • One bag frozen vegetables: onions, red peppers, and green peppers
  • One 8 ounce package mozzarella cheese
  • Garlic and onion powder
  • Olive oil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven according to package directions.
  2. Grease a foil-lined cookie sheet with baking spray, not oil or butter.
  3. Roll out the dough on the cookie sheet, spreading to the edges.
  4. Sprinkle lightly with garlic powder.
  5. Drain tomatoes very, very well, and spread over the crust. (This is the main secret to avoiding soggy pizza...no pizza sauce or liquid.)
  6. Sprinkle with olive oil, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper
  7. Spread the cheese evenly across the pizza.
  8. Microwave the frozen vegetables until thawed. Drain and spread across the pizza.
  9. Douse with a little more olive oil, sprinkle lightly with onion and garlic powder.
  10. Bake according to directions, but you must carefully watch for burning edges on the crust.

Enjoy!
