Hopefully you have gotten started. Cleaned out the food supply and collected your new food. Let's waste no time - let's cook.
If you are single, cooking is the easiest part. If you have a family, it may take a bit more effort. Either way always plan left-overs. (I call them planned-overs) This makes lunch the next day much easier and takes away the excuse "there's nothing to eat".
For those with a slow cooker, you are ready to go for these dinner ideas. Most of you already know the benefits of this wonderful creation. For those of you new to the game, never fear, it's the easiest cooking method around.
- Place a large roast in the slow cooker with a 1/2 cup of water. Sprinkle on garlic powder and salt. Set to low and let it cook.
- Spray the bottom of the crock with cooking spray. Put a whole chicken in. Rub the bird with some butter and sprinkle on salt and Italian seasoning. Set to low and away you go.
- Spray the bottom of the crock with cooking spray and arrange Turkey legs in the bottom. Sprinkle soy sauce and garlic powder over the top. Cook on low.
- Put 1/2 cup of water in the bottom of the crock and put in a strip steak. Add a small can of tomato sauce, salt, pepper, onion powder over the top and let it go on low.
- Spray the bottom of the crock with cooking spray and arrange a family pack of chicken to fit. Liberally add poultry seasoning.
- Cook a whole turkey breast in the slow cooker. Rub butter on the bottom of the crock first, put in the bird then season to taste. Cook on low
- Rub a roast with a package of fajita seasoning and cook on low in 1/2 cup of water.
Pick your favorite allowed veggie to go with dinner and you are set.
Cook large. With each of the above, you should have planned-overs to grab for lunch the next day.
If you are not into slow cooking just yet, here's my favorite quick meal.
Quickie Steak and Peppers
Cheap steak
Sharp cheddar cheese
Green pepper
Spring onions
Salt, pepper
- Turn on the broiler
- Cut up 1/2 a green pepper into strips and a couple of small spring onions or scallions.
- Season the steak with salt and pepper and place in the broiler for 3-5 minutes depending on how you like it cooked
- Heat a large skillet with a bit of olive oil and begin cooking the pepper and onion. Stir often
- Remove the steak from the broiler and turn over. Top the steak with sharp cheddar cheese and return to the broiler.
- Finish the peppers and remove the steak from the broiler when the cheese is melted.
- Eat.
